U. S. Canned Pear Industry
Overview
The canned pear industry on the West Coast has evolved into two distinct areas.
Oregon and Washington, which produce only grade pack pears. California, which
primarily produces fruit cocktail, and mixed fruit packs.
There are five pear processors operating in the Northwest, the three largest
are DelMonte Foods, Snokist Growers and Northwest Packing. There are three pear
processors operating in California: Del Monte Foods, Seneca Foods, and
Pacific Coast Producers.
