The Bartlett pear responds particularly well to the volcanic soil and dry summer climate of the Pacific Northwest. The warm sun of the Wenatchee, Yakima and
Hood River valleys gently ripens succulent pears that are unrivaled in flavor. In the Pacific Northwest, the typical harvest season lasts from the first week in August through the first week in September, roughly four weeks in all. This relatively short harvest period for fresh pears is one of the primary reasons canned pears are so popular with consumers. Because of the year-long availability of canned Bartletts, we can enjoy ripe, delicious pears no matter what the month or season.
