BABY FOOD RECIPE CONTEST!

Toddler Judge, Norah Flannery, 1, enjoys a Pear Chicken Nugget during a baby food recipe contest held February 23, 2005 at The Southern California Gas Company in Downey, CA. The competition was sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Canned Pear Service as a way to get chefs to “think outside the can” when it comes to food preparation for different age groups. Kids love canned pears, and recent updated dietary guidelines call for a diet with more fruits and vegetables. Chefs had one hour to create a recipe featuring canned pears as the dominant ingredient. A panel of toddlers “judged” the recipes while two adult chefs supervised and interpreted the toddler reactions into numerical scoring. Chef Diane O’Brien of Sherman Oaks, CA won first place and $500 for her Pear Chicken Nugget and Pear and Blueberry Oatmeal recipes.
